Project description

Current edition 2024 is a continuation of the commercial Summer Schools "Cursos de Verano" that have been held at AGH University for the past 24 years, welcoming students from Mexico, Chile, Puerto Rico, Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia, as well as two editions of the International School at AGH University, organized under the NAWA SPINAKER programme for students from the Western Balkans, Asia, and Ukraine in the editions 2020–2021.

The project is characterized by:

  • Internationalization – implementation of two editions (autumn/spring) of the school at AGH University, comprising four IMPK (International Modules in Professional Knowledge) in English, attended by 80 students from 10 Latin American countries.
  • Flexibility – hybrid learning format.
  • Attractiveness – each IMPK consists of 60 hours of unique specialist content and 30 hours of technical English, supporting the effective completion of the IMPK modules by students from Latin America. Practical and field classes will be conducted during the students' stay at AGH.
  • Intensity – the four IMPK modules total 360 hours of instruction.

Our project offers a unique combination of specialist content and technical English, making it especially attractive for students from Latin America. Each IMPK includes 60 hours of specialized academic content and 30 hours of technical English instruction, enhancing students’ ability to fully benefit from the program. Practical and field-based activities at AGH University will further enrich the learning experience with hands-on elements.

The objective of the Programme is:

  • to support the internationalisation of higher education and research institutions through short-term scholarship exchanges,
  • to enhance the competencies of students from Poland and abroad through short-term international mobility,
  • to improve the quality of education by implementing short-term exchanges of students from both Poland and abroad,
  • to increase the number of completed short-term mobilities.

The project’s objectives are in line with the goals of the Programme through:

  • maintaining long-term cooperation with partner universities from Latin America,
  • increasing the interest in AGH University’s educational offer among international first- and second-cycle students and their participation in AGH University’s study programmes,
  • expanding the IMPK offer in English, implemented by AGH University in a hybrid format,
  • improving access to online education for students with disabilities and those at risk of exclusion.

One of AGH University’s key strategic goals in the field of international cooperation is the further development of the internationalisation of education. AGH University places high importance on maintaining its long-standing cooperation with Latin American countries—especially Mexico and Chile—in fields such as mining, power electronics, and energy processing systems. AGH University has been engaged in educational and research collaboration in these areas with institutions from the region since the 1980s.

Expected results and long-term effects:

  • an increase in the number of international students at AGH University,
  • expansion and improvement of the quality of AGH University's educational offer,
  • enhancement of the competencies of the teaching staff involved in the project.
